Wake up, Filipinos!

I was watching CNN news with my sister to get updated about Japan. After a few minutes, commercials came. then the weather forecast flashed in.
"I wonder what Manila's weather will be."
I eagerly looked at the names of the places.
New Delhi, Bangkok, Hong Kong*, London, Tokyo, Taipei, Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta, Beiijing and Shanghai, New York, Wellington, Singapore City, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, Mumbai, Brisbane...
Where's Manila?
Is our country not worth mentioning? Even though it's just a 2-minute weather forecast?
As the weather forecast ends, a few commercials came running in, some featuring the country of Spain, Hong Kong, Thailand, India and Malaysia.
Where's the Philippines?
Is our country not beautiful enough? Does it not reach the economical standards needed to be advertised in TV?
Is Boracay not good enough? How about Cebu? Or even Makati, also known as the financial and economical capital of the Philippines? Are all of them not good enough?
All we do is complain about how our government sucks, how they fail to give us.
In the field of education, according to Republic Act 9155; "Declaration of Policy. - It is hereby declared the policy of the State to protect and promote the right of all citizens to quality basic education and tomake such education accessible to all by providing all Filipino children a free and compulsory education in the elementary level and free education in the high school level."
My thoughts exactly.
While Las Islas Filipinas was still its name, it had free compulsory education, prioritized by the Spanish government.
"Access to education by all Filipinos was later implemented through the enactment of the Educational Decree of 1863 which provided for the establishment of at least one primary school for boys and girls in each town under the responsibility of the municipal government; and the establishment of a normal school for male teachers under the supervision of the Jesuits. Primary instruction was free and available to every Filipino regardless of race or social class. Contrary to what the Propaganda of the Spanish–American War tried to depict, they were not religious schools, but schools established, supported and maintained by the Spanish Government and free and the teaching of Spanish was compulsory."
Even though studying was compulsory back then, they didn't regret learning.
Who in the world would possibly regret learning?
The first republic of the Philippines also gave free education, but only to the elementary level.
"A system of free and compulsory elementary education was established by the Malolos Constitution."
During the American handover colonization of the Philippines; Public schools were free, though elementary and high school weren't.
In the reign of the fifth republic; "On 26 May 1988 Congress enacted Republic Act 6655, the Free Public Secondary Education Act of 1988, which mandated free public secondary education commencing in the school year 1988-1989. On 26 May 1988 Congress enacted RA 6655 which made free public secondary education to become a reality."
Republic Act 6655 "Section 2. Declaration of Policy. — It is the policy of the State to provide for a free public secondary education to all qualified citizens and to promote quality education at all levels."
The government should just pay the teachers who do their job yet they should be in charge of the facilities and other needed equipment blablabla for our education.
Not for us to pay 150 pesos for tickets in some occasion in our school that we won't benefit from,
not for us to pay for the electricity that isn't even used because our air conditioners are broken,
not for us to pay for a school that has flush-less toilets,
not for us to pay for the food with a 5-10 peso difference from the regular price.
yet, those who don't prioritize learning shouldn't even pay because they don't give a damn, and they don't care where the money of their parents go. In fact, they shouldn't even study. but well, that means most of the kids would end up being hungry for the rest of their lives, haha
Some of the students in public schools which have around twice as much as the population of private schools excel more than some most of the students in private schools. They prioritize learning. well, some
Those who study in a public school yet want to learn might even have a better job than those who study in a private school yet doesn't want to learn.
Nah, they want to learn.. they're just too lazy to. Anyway, still the same effect, no?
Y'know what, I think I just contradicted my own statement. I do have hidden crap about the government.
-
One more thing that bothers me. The poor people, however ..poor they are, complain that the government doesn't prioritize them.
Well, I call this as karma.something like, in my own terms, "The slower the tree sprouts, the uglier it gets, the fruits will get molds 'till the sun sets."
Okay, well that didn't make sense.
I mean, let's get to the point. Those who live in those squatter areas wouldn't be shooed off by the police if they weren't making the environment bloody dirty.
The rich wouldn't be hated by the poor if they cared enough to help them.
But the poor wouldn't be poor if they cared to learn when they were young, and if they didn't have a dozen kids before having a stable job.
We're at fault, not the government.
We ourselves don't really care about the trash that surrounds us. May it be schools and other public facilities.
Singapore is strict when it comes to littering, why can't we?
Why can't the people, regardless of the coughing and colds, stop spitting everywhere?
Why can't the people, regardless of the minimal bladder capacity, stop pissing on walls?
The government should..
1. put more trash bins, and those trash bins should have different labels to segregate trash.
2. revive the free education and implement it not only to all public schools but also private schools.
3. be the one to manage the fees of all, if not, most schools.
4. be strict when it comes to littering, pissing on walls and spitting everywhere.
5. at least donate some money to the poor, they're richer than rich. They should prove that they're worthy.
6. stop sleeping when there are protests against them
7. build some kind of recycling plant. It might just work.
8. ban illegal drugs. Kill those who have something against this law. (our current president smokes, how does that sound?!)
And we should..
1. be self disciplined, like what happened in the martial law back then.
2. not spit everywhere. Get a tissue, spit and throw it in the trash bin.
3. not litter. Put the trash in your bag and/or throw it in the trash bin when you see one. Candy wrappers is a must.
4. be responsible enough to not drink much water when there aren't any public restrooms available.
5. be clean always.
6.1. read some of Kung Fu Tze/Confucius' quotes and be enlightened. It works.
6.2. praying is something many people like boasting about, but it's okay, just be sure to really do it. Hypocrisy's quite common.
7. Plant more plants. ('Plant more trees' is overrated) to replace those used to make paper. It can help us filter the air and helps us prevent landslides. So plant more ..plants.
8. be motivated enough to learn. One who has knowledge will never regret acquiring it. Oh hey, I made a new quote.
..and the list goes on..
The Philippines is one of the G-24 or Group of 24..
"The Group of 24 (G24), a chapter of the G-77, was established in 1971 to coordinate the positions of developing countries on international monetary and development finance issues and to ensure that their interests were adequately represented in negotiations on international monetary matters."
This country is in our care.
According to Wikipedia, Philippines is considered as one of the newly industrialized countries of the world.
Can we make become one of the Asian tigers? If Thailand and Malaysia can reach the standards, so can we.
If both Saigon Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi are broadcasted in the weather forecast, so will Manila and Cebu. hahaha my happiness is shallow
Let our country be known to the world!
Mabuhay!
